A freshly built observatory dome houses a high-powered 40-centimetre, mirrored telescope. One day soon, wine sippers will be able to gaze at the stars.
The automated telescope -- lent to Saunders by a friend -- will eventually allow users to control it through the Internet.
Saunders said Calamus is the first winery in Canada to have an observatory.
