Comet Barnard-Boattini will make a flyby (75 lunar distances) of the Earth-Moon system on the 22nd October, 2008. Observers will require a large telescope to view the magnitude 16 comet.
A new periodic comet P/2008 T3 (Boattini) was discovered by Andrea Boattini (Mt. Lemmon Survey), on the 7th October, 2008. The preliminary orbital elements of the comet indicate a perihelion passage on the 25th October, 2008, at a distance of 1.1 AU from the Sun, and a 5.9 year period.
