Joe Thompson has been gazing up at the stars for 45 years.
The amateur astronomer started with a 6-inch telescope bought with savings from a newspaper route job, which he quit as soon as he had saved the $249.
He now enjoys five telescopes of varying sizes and his very own observatory in his back yard.
Thompson, 55, started the Big Country Astronomy Club in April, and membership has grown to about 30.
