Researchers at the University of Colorado are working with NASA to extend Earths Internet into outer space and across the solar system - creating a universe-wide web of sorts.
The new technology, dubbed "Disruption Tolerant Networking," or DTN, will allow NASA and other space agencies around the world to better communicate with international spacecraft fleets exploring the moon and Mars on future voyages.

NASA Successfully Tests First Deep Space Internet
NASA has successfully tested the first deep space communications network modelled on the Internet.
Working as part of a NASA-wide team, engineers from NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, Calif., used software called Disruption-Tolerant Networking, or DTN, to transmit dozens of space images to and from a NASA science spacecraft located about 20 million miles from Earth.
