Comet P/2008 Y2 (Gibbs) was discovered on the 31st December, 2008, by A.R. Gibbs (Catalina Sky Survey).
The preliminary orbital elements for the comet  indicate a perihelion passage on the 22nd January, 2009 at a distance of approximately 1.6 AU from the Sun, and a 6.8 year orbital period.
