The 100km-wide asteroid (626) Notburga will occult the fairly bright star (magnitude 7) 36 Aquarii (HIP 109369) on Saturday, 10th January 2009 at about 18:07 UT.
The event will be observable  from central Britain and southern Ireland, using a small scope or binoculars, low (15 degrees) in the south-west sky.
The predicted 100km-wide occultation path crosses between Morecambe and the Lake District to Hartlepool.
The occultation will dim the star HIP 109369 by about 6 magnitudes to 13.6 mag for around 2.4 seconds.

Asteroid (626) Notburga has a magnitude of +13.6 and is beyond the range of most amateur telescope.
The moon is full but will not interfere wit the observations.
