You wouldn't call it panic, but there was notice well taken by those few folk in Crowley who thought Sputnik was going to crash down on them 50 years ago this week.
The talk began when the crew of a commercial airplane reported sighting what its members believed to be the breakup of Sputnik II while flying near Baton Rouge.
Capt. S.E. Price of Dallas was piloting the Delta-American Airlines flight 791 from New Orleans to Los Angeles when he and some other crew members sighted whatever they saw about 7 a.m.
