ILS Proton launches Intelsat 22

The Intelsat 22 satellite was launched successfully on Sunday, March 25, from the Baikonur cosmodrome.
The satellite was built by Boeing Space & Intelligence Systems, is based on their 702MP platform and possesses a mass of 6199kg.

A Russian Proton-M rocket carrying a U.S. telecommunications satellite Intelsat-22 was launched Sunday from the Baikonur space centre in Kazakhstan, according to Russia's Federal Space Agency Roscosmos.
Roscosmos' live broadcast of the launch on its official website showed the Proton-M rocket lifted off at 16:10 Moscow time (1210 GMT).

An ILS Proton will launch the Intelsat 22 satellite for Intelsat S.A., the worlds leading provider of fixed satellite services. The Intelsat 22 satellite is under construction by Boeing Space and Intelligence Systems is scheduled for launch in the first half of 2012. The Intelsat 22 mission is part of the Intelsat Multi-Launch Agreement which allowed Intelsat the flexibility to substitute the Intelsat 22 satellite for the previously-announced Intelsat 21 satellite.

Boeing Co. won a contract to build a satellite for Intelsat Ltd ., the operator of the world's biggest satellite fleet, that will serve commercial markets and the Australian military. The contract's value wasn't disclosed in the release issued Monday by Pembroke, Bermuda-based Intelsat . Dianne VanBeber, a spokeswoman for Intelsat, declined to provide a price. The satellite is expected to be launched in the first quarter of 2012 and will serve network and media customers in Africa, Asia, Europe and the Middle East. The satellite also will be used by the Australian military, Intelsat said.

Intelsat, Ltd., the world's leading provider of fixed satellite services, announced today that the Australian Defence Force (ADF) has agreed to purchase a specialised UHF communications payload aboard an Intelsat satellite scheduled for launch in 2012. As part of the "hosted payload" contract valued at approximately $167 million, Intelsat will arrange for the construction and integration of the UHF payload with its satellite. Under the agreement, Intelsat is expected to operate the ADF payload and provide related services for 15 years following the launch.
