The GAW Observatory is one of two laboratories receiving new INAC funding from the Canadian government, in an effort to modernise the facilities. The Polar Continental Shelf Program (PCSP) in Resolute also received part of the $2 million dollars going to the two labs in Nunavut. The funding will go towards maintenance work and upgrading such equipment as plumbing pumps, interior and exterior doors and upgrading storage tanks at the Resolute facility, as well as the electrical system, fibre optic cable and the platform tower at Alert.
