A possible magnitude 15 supernova was discovered on the 20th July, 2009, in the bright Sc galaxy NGC 578 in the constellation Cetus.
The supernova is located 30 West and  40 South from the center of the Galaxy.

Position(2000): RA  01 30.4, Dec  -22 41
