A Dumfries-born scientist, the late Robbie Waland helped make it possible for Neil Armstrong to become the first man to walk on the moon.
Mr Waland, who died in 1999 at the age of 90, was born in Leafield Road and went on to bring great advances in the study of astronomy.
This included mapping the moons surface for the Apollo Space Missions.
