The fourth earthquake within a month - and the biggest in intensity in the past nine years - hit parts of Assam and Meghalaya past midnight yesterday, sending jittery people into a state of panic. The earthquake measured 5.9 on the Richter scale, according to Upper Shillong Meteorological Observatory, which also pinpointed the epicentre to 24.3 north latitude and 94.6 east longitude on the Indo-Myanmar border.
