WA bat rescue mission a dismal failure A rescue mission to save an iconic Christmas Island species (Ed ~ Pipistrellus murrayi) has failed despite the efforts of some of Australasia's leading scientists. The eight bat scientists were on Christmas Island for four weeks along with volunteers from the Australasian Bat Society trying to capture endangered pipistrelle bats in order to move them to a new ecosystem where they would have a better chance of survival.
