A magnitude 14.6 supernova, 2009iw, was discovered on the 15th September, 2009, by amateur astronomer S. Parker (New Zealand), in the SBc galaxy IC 2160 in the constellation Mensa. The supernova is located 10" west and 3" south from the center of the host galaxy. As yet the type is unknown.

This is S. Parker's third discovery this year. His previous discovery was SN 2009hm.
