Change the Registered Owner

Click Start -->Run
Then type 'regedit' in the textbox and click OK.

Go to this registry key:
HKEY LOCAL MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion

In the right panel, right click RegisteredOwner.
Modify the value data field to change the name.

While I can personally attest for the gains Microsoft made when it comes to Windows Vista's performance between its release-to-manufacture November 2006 and now, there is no denying the fact that Vista simply isn't made for running on lower-specced computers. In addition, while Vista brings interesting new features and massive overhauls of many subsystems, a lot of people simply don't like it. Sadly for them, Windows XP is going out-of-sale 30 June. Windows XP Service Pack 3 Release Candidate 2 via Windows Update
Microsoft is allowing Windows XP Service Pack 2 machines to be offered Windows XP Service Pack 3 Release Candidate 2 via Windows Update. Windows XP Service Pack 3 will be offered on Windows Update when Service Pack 3 releases in the first half of 2008.

Microsoft has begun patching files on Windows XP and Vista without users' knowledge, even when the users have turned off auto-updates.
Many companies require testing of patches before they are widely installed, and businesses in this situation are objecting to the stealth patching.

Microsoft's Internet Explorer development team has announced that a free, pre-activated Windows XP SP2 image with Internet Explorer 6 installed, is available to download for free.
The Virtual PC image is time-limed and will expire in April 2007.

System Requirements
* Supported Operating Systems: Windows Server 2003; Windows Vista; Windows XP

(495.8mb download)
You will need a minimum of 1.5 Gig hard drive space free to expand the VHD file.

Google will find all the Belarc Advisor Current Profile pages that organizations and people have posted on the internet. If you sift through the results, you will quickly find hundreds of valid XP and other software product keys. You will also find any number of other product keys for other software including Macromedia, Adobe and Symantec.

Using the Google API and some regular expressions, someone could quickly pull thousands of valid product keys out of Google and post them up online...

Microsoft recently made a change to the licence agreement saying that a new motherboard is equal to a new computer, hence you need to purchase a new Windows licence.

"An upgrade of the motherboard is considered to result in a "new personal computer" to which Microsoft® OEM operating system software cannot be transferred from another computer. If the motherboard is upgraded or replaced for reasons other than a defect, then a new computer has been created and the license of new operating system software is required." - Microsoft

The reason Microsoft gave for this term is that "Microsoft needed to have one base component "left standing" that would still define that original PC. Since the motherboard contains the CPU and is the "heart and soul" of the PC, when the motherboard is replaced (for reasons other than defect) a new PC is essentially created."

Microsoft sent a memo to its OEM partners asking them to enforce this new policy, every time they upgrade a computer for a client.
