Astronomers from The University of Manchester's Jodrell Bank Centre for Astrophysics have been heading out into the streets of Manchester to show passers-by close-up views of the Moon and the planet Jupiter.
Would-be astronomers can do a little lunar gazing this week - if cloud clears. Huddersfield Astronomical Society are opening up their observatory all week, as part of the MoonWatch event.
The Moon, Jupiter and meteor showers were all glimpsed through telescopes at an event to mark national Moonwatch Week. Chipping Norton Amateur Astronomy Group set up its equipment at the historic Rollright Stones and more than 50 people took the opportunity to stare skywards.

Autumn Moonwatch Astronomers across the UK will be helping the public get a close look at the Moon in the Autumn Moonwatch, a major event in the International Year of Astronomy 2009 (IYA2009) running from 24th October to 1st November.
Autumn Moonwatch Week takes place from Sat 24th October to Sun 1st November and is part of the International Year of Astronomy 2009.
Hampshire Astronomical Group are holding their Autumn Moonwatch Week as part of the International Year of Astronomy. This event will be on the dates 23rd, 24th, 25th, 30th, 31st October and 1st November. Read more
