Linux for Astronomy includes over 3Gb of Astronomical software precompiled for the Linux (x86) operating system. Applications include a wealth of general purpose image and signal processing tools, as well as the state-of-the-art algorithms in use at observatories and universities worldwide. Facilities for processing the data products of the major space-based instruments (Hubble Space Telescope, EUV, Einstein, ROSAT, IUE, etc) are also included.
The 2 cdrom set contains a large collection of Astronomical software. All the applications are prebuilt for Linux (x86). The RPM packaging format is used to support a variety of installation methods. Applications are automatically integrated into the KDE/GNOME desktop menu systems. Also included is a comprehensive on-line documentation library and a searchable database of 30000 Astronomy related WWW pages. Many of the packages in Linux for Astronomy contain general purpose image processing tools which can be usefully applied in other areas (eg. biomedical imaging).
