The time of night makes it unlikely it was part of a meteor shower.  Meteor showers get their names from their appearance point in the sky or radiant as it's known and Taurus had yet to rise into the sky that night.

Witnesses from Monterey to the south and as far north as San Rafael reported seeing a bright ball of fire followed by a squiggly trail of smoke around 5:10 p.m. Saturday.

Numerous residents in Felton and elsewhere called authorities starting about 5:40 p.m. after a meteor shower sent streaks across the sky at sunset Saturday.

Emergency calls to 9-1-1 and to FOX40 news Saturday night because of what flew across the sky and appeared to hit the ground causing so many to think it was a plane crashing to the ground. It was pretty scary for people who described what looked like a fireball falling from the sky. It was all actually part of a yearly event called the Leonid meteor shower.
