A magnitude 14.8, Type Ia supernova, 2009kq, was discovered on the 5th November, 2009, in the galaxy MCG +05-21-1 in the constellation Cancer. by R. Gagliano, and T. Puckett using the Double Beam Spectrograph on the Palomar 200-inch telescope. They report that the supernova best matches the Type Ia-norm SN 1989B at about 6-9 days before peak. The supernova is located 4.0" west and 23.7" north from the center of the galaxy.
