Earth observation scientists at the University of Leicester have recorded stunning images of the UKs winter landscape by orbiting satellites. European Space Agency satellite instruments have been observing the icy blast in the UK from their vantage points in space. Leicester scientists have used two instruments, MERIS and AATSR, which have returned stunning images of a snow-bound UK from observations on November 29th and December 1st. Read more
The UK is entering a prolonged cold snap which could bring one of the earliest significant snowfalls since 1993, according to weather forecasters. Northern and eastern parts of the UK are expected to bear the brunt of the wintry conditions. Read more
The Met Office is to stop publishing seasonal forecasts, after it came in for criticism for failing to predict extreme weather. It was berated for not foreseeing that the UK would suffer this cold winter or the last three wet summers in its seasonal forecasts.
