A ball of flame was spotted in the Mayo sky (Ireland) at 1.46 a.m. on Sunday night/ Monday morning (26/27 June 2005) The light, which was low down in the northern sky, was travelling in a north easterly direction and falling rapidly towards earth. The object may have been a meteorite or object burning up on entering the earth's atmosphere.
However, at no stage did the object resemble the usual meteorite "streak" but remained intact as a single glowing object. It exuded a blue-yellow glow, similar to that emanating from a welding job, providing a spectacular view in the night sky.
