To watch the Delta Aquarid meteor shower, youll need to set your alarm for about 3 a.m. Sunday morning July 27, or else (like me) just stay up all night long. The constellation of Aquarius doesnt rise until about 11 p.m. Saturday night, so, dont expect to see any Delta Aquarids before then. Aquarius is highest in the southern sky about 4 a.m. This will be the best time to watch. The meteors will seem to dart in every direction, but their paths will all start from near the star Delta Aquarii, just above the bright star Fomalhaut. You might see about one or two shower meteors every 5 minutes, on average. Its more of a sprinkle than a shower, really.
The Southern Delta Aquarids is a meteor shower that will be visible from mid-July to mid-August, but will peak on July 28-29, 2008. Specifically, you should be able to see them from about July 14th to around August 18th.
Starting from today the Southern Delta Aquarid meteor shower will appear, lasting until August 19; and peaking around July 28. The meteors will radiate from a point in the constellation of Aquarius. Expect to see 11 meteors an hour, though sometimes it can be as high as 50/hour.
The Southern Delta Aquarids can be best viewed after the Moon sets (at midnight).
