We have been working on an 80mm f6 terrestrial version of the Zerochromat concept, and will be demonstrating a prototype at Inventions Geneva from the 21st to the 25th April this year. Without the use of expensive and fragile glass types, we have developed an optical system that gives an apochromatic performace, with a Strehl ratio in excess of 0.98. It has a flat field of view that is pin-sharp to the edge of the 2.5 degree field of view. Works well with premium quality zoom eyepieces. Close focus is approximately 6 metres. With a tough carbon-fibre tube, the weight is only 750g. In fact the performance is so good that it can be used for astronomy, too. Powers of 20x right up to 160x are usable. Production version will be available late autumn this year and they will be very competitively priced at under gbp1,000.00 RRP. Read more
The Newise 200x is a modified Newtonian telescope whose innovative design, discussed in detail below, gives the prospect of having both the planetary imaging performance of a high quality Newtonian telescope (but in a much more compact form) and also the ability to form a wide flat field that is perfect for astro-imaging whilst giving impressive visual views of open star clusters such as the Pleiades. The telescope was tested in comparison to other high quality telescopes and the promised optical performance was confirmed. In addition the telescope was found to be a very pleasant telescope to use with its compact size and low weight making it easy to handle and with its Newtonian focus always enabling a comfortable viewing position to be found. Abergele inventor awarded telescope design gold medal
An inventor and a north Wales college have combined to win an international award for their telescope design. Peter Wise from Abergele, Conwy, and Coleg Llandrillo Cymru won a gold medal at the Geneva Inventors' Fair. Mr Wise, 63, worked with the Denbighshire college's Technology Innovation Centre (TIC) to design what they say is a low price, high quality, lightweight telescope. Read more
