MAPHEUS successfully launched from Esrange Space Centre
Today at noon the two stage sounding rocket MAPHEUS-2 was successfully launched from SSC's launch facility at Esrange Space Centre. The rocket reached an altitude of 153,5 km and offered 3 minutes and 40 seconds of microgravity. The recovery of the payload is ongoing and it will be back at the base within less than half an hour. On Monday October 19, people involved in the MAPHEUS-2 campaign arrived to Esrange Space Centre. MAPEHUS is a German sounding rocket programme for experiments in microgravity led by the German space organisation DLR. Read more
A US Nike/improved Orion rocket with the German MAPHEUS-2 is scheduled to be launched from the Esrange Space Centre, Sweden in October, 2010. The payload will carry out experiments in microgravity in Suborbital flight. The MAPHEUS-1 was successfully launched from Esrange Space Centre on the 22nd May, 2009 at 12.32 (LT).
