Aurora Borealis displays predicted for north of UK
Skies above parts of the UK are predicted to be lit up by the Aurora Borealis following activity from the sun. The Northern Lights were seen on Sunday in Scotland, the north-east of England, Northern Ireland and also in Ireland. The solar activity is predicted to occur again on Monday and Tuesday. Read more
As the strongest Solar Radiation Storm (S3) since May, 2005 continues, the associated Earthward-directed Coronal Mass Ejection is expected to arrive about 1400 UT (9am EST) Jan 24. SWPC has issued a Geomagnetic Storm Watch with G2 level storming likely and G3 level storming possible, with the storm continuing into Wednesday, Jan 25. Read more
Local skywatchers may have witnessed a spectacular sight Monday night, when a phenomenon normally reserved for the worlds northernmost corners was visible in the Washington area. Read more
A lot of people saw strange lights in the sky Monday night. The lights were the Aurora Borealis, also known as the "Northern Lights." The lights are normally seen at higher latitudes, but were spotted as far south as Tennessee and even northern Georgia on Monday. Read more
