British team send homemade aircraft to the edge of space before it flies back to Earth

Who needs a multi-billion-dollar spacecraft to study the Earth when you can use a paper plane?
Pictured here is the incredible British mission to send the plane 17 miles into the atmosphere to capture images of the curvature of the globe using a miniature camera.
The plane, which has a 3ft wing span and is made from paper straws covered in paper, was launched using nothing more powerful than a large helium balloon.

The plane, with a wing span of three feet and made of paper straws, was launched using just a large helium balloon.
The craft soared to 90,000 feet before the balloon exploded, after which the plane glided back to the ground, taking photographs as it descended.

Amateur space enthusiasts launch paper plane into space

A team of amateur British space enthusiasts has achieved a world first by sending a paper plane into space. The plane was made out of covered up paper straws was launched in Spain using a helium balloon.
A camera on the plane's wing captured dramatic images as it flew back down through the earth's atmosphere.
