University of Utah Library Brings the Arctic to the Desktop American conservation took a major step forward 50 years ago-the establishment of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR) in Alaska. The Refuge has preserved a unique piece of American wilderness and wildlife for future generations. The 50th anniversary of the establishment of ANWR will be officially recognized on Monday, Dec. 6, 2010.Fortunately the natural sounds of this remote landscape have been preserved for future generations and can now be accessed by anyone with a computer and access to the Internet. Anyone interested in the sounds of ANWR can find them at the digital Western Soundscape Archive, which resides at the J.
