The largest rocket ever launched from the West Coast successfully blasted off On Thursday from Vandenberg Air Force Base.
The Delta IV Heavy rocket was carrying a classified defence satellite as its payload. The United Launch Alliance will only say it's important for our national defence and it required the nation's largest rocket. But no details have been released about the payload. This launch was a long time in the making. It took three years of preparation and $100 million dollars in upgrades to complex-6.

T-2 minutes through orbit insertion. Delta IV Heavy rocket makes the first launch from Vandenberg, AFB in California. It's the largest rocket every to fly from the West Coast. The rocket orbited the NRL-49 top-secret satellite for the NRO (National Reconnaissance Office). This video clip is from the ULA launch webcast and courtesy/credit to ULA.
