Asteroid (11885) Summanus is an Apollo family NEAR asteroid.
Discovered on the 25th September 1990 by Spacewatch at Kitt Peak., it has an orbit characterised by a semi-major axis of 1.7031192 AU and an eccentricity of 0.4744898, and an 19.41687° inclination to the ecliptic.
The asteroid is dedicated to the Etruscan god Summano - Etruscan or Roman deity responsible for nocturnal lightning and thunder, as Jupiter was in daytime.
11885 Summanus was the first NEO discovered automatically by software and (lightning-fast) electronic computer; J. V. Scotti used D. L. Rabinowitz's Moving Object Detection Program at the telescope.

The 510 - 1100 metre wide asteroid 11885 Summanus will make a close pass (39.7 lunar distances, 0.1021 AU), travelling at 16.22 km/second, to the Earth-Moon system on the 17th March, 2011 @ 13:24 UT ±00:01.
