Chunghwa Telecom (CHT) and Singapore Telecommunications (SingTel) will launch a joint-venture communication satellite, ST-2, in mid-May 2011 to replace ST-1 launched in August 1998, with Arianespace to be responsible for the launch from French Guiana, South America, using its Ariane 5 rocket, according to CHT. (Melco) of Tokyo suffered no damage from the earthquake and tsunami that has devastated Japan and will be shipped to South America in time for its scheduled May launch, a Singapore Telecommunications Ltd. An Arianespace Ariane 5 ECA rocket is scheduled to launch the Insat 4G (GSAT 8) and ST-2 communications satellites from Kourou, French Guiana, on the 11th May, 2011.
