Boeing Phantom Ray Makes First Flight

Boeing has announced that its unmanned aerial vehicle the Phantom Ray completed its first flight on April 27, after being unveiled almost a year ago. The flight lasted 17 minutes, during which the Phantom Ray reached an altitude of 7,500 feet and a speed of 178 knots.

The Boeing Phantom Ray is a stealthy unmanned combat air vehicle being developed by Boeing using company funds. The Phantom Ray is a demonstrator aircraft, about the size of a fighter that will conduct a program of test flights involving surveillance, ground attack and autonomous aerial refuelling missions.
