Photograph the particle in place before moving it. The pieces, ideally, should not be touched with bare hands to avoid contaminating the specimen. They should be placed in aluminum foil to keep them clean. Note the precise location using GPS coordinates, a stake in the ground or local landmarks. Do not use a magnet to test the object, as this could scramble any natural magnetic properties.
