AVO infrasound detected a possible explosion at Cleveland Volcano this morning at 5:00AM AKDT )13:00 UTC). The infrasound signals suggest that this was a relatively short duration, low-level explosion. No eruption cloud has been detected in available satellite views. AVO received no other reports of activity.

Current Volcano Alert Level: WATCH

Elevated surface temperatures were detected in satellite images of Cleveland over the last 24 hours. The aviation colour code and volcano alert level were changed to ORANGE/WATCH earlier today based on evidence that a new dome has formed in the summit crater of Cleveland. The dome is about 100 m in diameter and presumably formed starting January 24, 2013 when elevated surface temperatures were observed in satellite images.

A small ash cloud from Cleveland Volcano was detected in satellite views beginning today, Nov. 10, at 11:47AM AST (20:47 UTC) drifting slowly toward the ENE from the summit. The ash cloud was last observed about 60 miles south of Dutch Harbour at 18:43 AST, Nov. 10 (03:43 UTC Nov 11). AVO has received no other reports of activity at the volcano.

Alaska's Cleveland Volcano shoots up ash cloud 35,000 feet

One of Alaska's remote volcanoes, Cleveland Volcano, awoke from slumber earlier this week, shooting an ash cloud into the air.
Alaska's Cleveland Volcano has been on volcanologists' radar for months now, but recently was downgraded at the end of May. However, the volcano erupted on Tuesday shooting up ash 35,000 feet into the air.

Cleveland Volcano rocked by explosion

A brief explosion Wednesday night rocked Cleveland Volcano, 940 miles southwest of Anchorage on Chuginadak Island, and likely produced some airborne ash, a volcanologist said. The blast may have also removed or partially removed a lava dome growing in the volcano's summit crater.
