Albert Ham, professor of geochemistry at the University Pierre et Marie Curie (Paris VI), said there is no question; "What exploded in the skies over Brittany was a meteor. After analysing information about the brightness of magnitude -12, the meteor would have exploded at about 10 km above sea level and would have fallen within ~50 miles of the city of Rennes".
But, Tioga Gulon, an astronomy enthusiast and member of the French observation of meteors (REFORM), said that the discovery of meteorite fragments contribute significantly to the development of science. However, some people seek these meteorite fragments in Brittany for purely financial gain.
