Albert Ham, professor of geochemistry at the University Pierre et Marie Curie (Paris VI), said there is no question; "What exploded in the skies over Brittany was a meteor. After analysing information about the brightness of magnitude -12, the meteor would have exploded at about 10 km above sea level and would have fallen within ~50 miles of the city of Rennes".
 
But, Tioga Gulon, an astronomy enthusiast and member of the French observation of meteors (REFORM), said that the discovery of meteorite fragments contribute significantly to the development of science. However, some people seek these meteorite fragments in Brittany for purely financial gain.

Meteor in the sky of Brittany

A scene from science fiction: a bright object crosses the sky of a quiet town in Brittany, northern France and then disappears over the horizon. Some would think it was a UFO. In fact, according to reports from the Rennes space centre, which released the video filmed by a surveillance camera, it was "only" a meteorite that crashed in France on the 19th July, 2011.
