Just to the north of Deneb, halfway between Deneb and Herschel's Garnet Star, is the dark nebula Le Gentil 3, or Globular Filament 7 (GF 7, catalogued by Schneider & Elmegreen in 1979). Le Gentil 3 was discovered and catalogued by the French astronomer Guillaume-Joseph-Hyacinthe-Jean-Baptiste Le Gentil de la Galaziere in the 1700s. The dark nebula stretching over six degrees in the sky is visible to the unaided eye from a dark-sky site.
