According to witnesses the meteorite fell onto a newly-built house in the village of Iwieniec. The stone fell through the roof, and into the room and left a deep mark on the wall. But there was also a second, larger stone that fell in farm fields. At the same time as the Iwienicu fall, peasants from the countryside of Chotów heard a loud noise, like thunder. From a cloudless sky an object, that looked like a "second sun", fell quickly to earth in the center of a field, leaving a deep crater. When they approached it, they found a stone. The peasants tried to get it out, but they failed to do so. Also, information of the meteorite fall was hidden from the local authorities. Information about the other larger rock long remained a mystery, until information about this fall was uncovered after almost 100 years. However, no one has managed to find the buried meteorite. The Szumczika specimen is probably a fragment of the larger body. It was confiscated is now at the University of Minsk. Read more (Polish)
