It was Monday evening, December 12th. The time 6:04 p.m. The night sky was black, clear of clouds, filled with stars (Ed ~ Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse.).
Astronomers have come up with a likely landing area about 20 kilometres in length and perhaps 5 kilometres long running north (and slightly) west at the east end of Stoney Lake just above Havelock.
Perhaps by the time you read this that mighty meteor might be found. If so, it will probably be in the "miracle" class of finds.

Meteorite likely landed in eastern Ontario: Researchers

Researchers are hoping to track down a large meteorite that streaked the sky and crashed in eastern Ontario Monday night.
Many Canadians were looking upward during the Geminid meteor shower when a bright fireball was spotted just after 6 p.m., by six cameras from the University of Western Ontario southern Ontario meteor network.
It was no bigger than a basketball and entered the earth's atmosphere at 14 km per second, experts say, leaving a green trail across the night sky.

Meteorite hunters prepare to scour cottage country

Meteorite hunters can only hope any chips off the old block that flew from the sky this week landed on terra firma.
Make that a 4.5-billion-year-old block. That's the estimated age of the rare chunk of magnetic material that hit the planet northeast of Peterborough.
