Google Earth is a huge source of interesting illustrations of various natural phenomena. It can represent a valuable tool for science education, not only for teaching geography and geology, but also physics. Here we suggest that Google Earth can be used for introducing in an attractive way the physics of waves.

PGC teams with Internet giant to provide high-res imagery to the public

The southern continent has always been on Google maps and its popular Google Earth application. The problem was that much of the imagery was about as sharp as the graphics in Pong, one of the earliest arcade video games.
But Paul Morin External Non-U.S. government site and his mapmakers at the Polar Geospatial Centre (PGC) External Non-U.S. government site at the University of Minnesota External Non-U.S. government site are doing all they can to change that with the cooperation of the Internet giant.

Where Google Earth cars are currently driving

This information shows a sample of the areas in which our cars are currently operating. We try to make sure the information is accurate and kept up to date, but because of factors outside our control (weather, road closures, etc), it is always possible that our cars may not be operating, or be operating in areas that are not listed. In these circumstances, we'll try to update the list as soon as we can.
