Legend surrounds the mysterious 'Blue Hole'

This is a mysterious pond in Winslow Township thought to be an oft-visited place by the winged Jersey Devil monster. The Blue Hole is supposed to be a bottomless pond (a portal to the underworld) with nothing living in it, where bathers often vanish. Its translucent, always frigid blue waters contrast with the tea-coloured liquid normally found in the Pinelands, which comes from the tannin in the pine trees and the iron in the soil.

The Blue Hole is approximately 130 feet across, almost perfectly round, and has steep banks.  Its waters remain curiously cold, even in the hottest summer months, averaging about 58 degrees.  Unlike most bodies of water in the Pine Barrens, which bear a coloration similar to tea due to the high content of iron, tannic acid, and suspended sediment, the water of the Blue Hole is perfectly clear.

The Blue Hole is located in the Pinelands of Monroe Township, Gloucester County, New Jersey and Winslow Township, Camden County, New Jersey. It is a clear blue body of water situated in the middle of a dense forest, with many similar such lakes in it's immediate vicinity. The water has warm and cold spots, averaging 58 to 60 degrees Fahrenheit.
