On January 23, 1877, at 4:00 P.M., a brilliant meteor display was observed in Monroe County, Ind., and Harrison County, Ky. This stone is classified as an olivine-hypersthene chondrite (petrologic type L4). A farmer heard the meteorite strike the ground approximatly 9 miles from Cynthiana and recovered a stone of approximately 13 pounds.

The Cynthiana (L/LL4) meteorite fell in Kentucky, USA, on the 23rd January, 1877.
A total mass of 6 kg was recovered.
