Chinese submersible Jiaolong completes 2nd dive in Yap Trench
China's manned submersible Jiaolong completed its second dive in the Yap Trench on Monday. The dive began at 7:12 a.m. local time and reached the planned depth of 5,100 meters at 9:55 a.m., where scientists worked for three hours and eight minutes. Read more

China begins deep-sea research in northwestern Pacific Ocean
China's manned submersible Jiaolong departed from south China's Shenzhen for deep-sea dives in northwestern Pacific Ocean Tuesday. The ship Xiangyanghong 09 set sail for the Yap and Mariana trenches, with Jiaolong and 96 scientists aboard, marking the beginning of the third stage of China's 38th oceanic expedition. Chinese submersible retrieves seamount sample in South China Sea
Jiaolong, China's manned submersible on Saturday retrieved a basalt sample from the Zhenbei Seamount in the South China Sea which scientists say could shed light on the formation and evolution of seamounts in the area. Jiaolong stayed underwater for nine and a half hours in its third dive in the second stage of China's 38th ocean scientific expedition, which will last until May 13. China's Jiaolong submersible set for Pacific voyage
Jiaolong, China's first manned deep-sea submersible, is scheduled to leave for a voyage in the northwest Pacific Ocean on June 25, according to oceanic authorities. Its carrier, Xiangyanghong 09, left the eastern port city of Qingdao on Saturday. It will pick up Jiaolong from the city of Jiangyin, Jiangsu Province, according to the State Oceanic Administration (SOA)'s North China Sea Branch. Read more
Jiaolong, China's manned submersible successfully completed a dive of 7,015 meters below sea level at around 11 am local time, 8:55 am Beijing time. It's the craft's fourth dive into the Mariana Trench. The submersible then went on to finally reach a maximum depth of 7,020 meters below sea level.
