People across the region have reported sightings of a meteor that passed over northern England tonight. It was seen in the skies near York between 9.30pm and 10pm, reportedly moving southwards. Read more
Ed ~ unfortunately the two videos that have appeared publicly happen to be quite close together to get a better flight path; but it is clear from reports from southern England, and the lack of reports (as yet?) from France, that the meteor probably ended over the English channel.
Police forces across the UK have been inundated with calls after what is believed to be a meteor was spotted in the sky.
Grampian Police said reports of people seeing a "flare or a bright object with a tail" were received from across the region. And Dumfries and Galloway Constabulary said numerous calls were made about a "large ball of fire in the sky" across Annandale and Eskdale. Read more
Stargazers throughout the UK have reported seeing a meteor-like streak of light in the darkened skies. The BBC was contacted by people in Scotland, the Midlands, Wales, and northern and south west England who saw the display at about 1740 GMT.
