Residents of Coll in bid for first 'dark isle' status

Coll (Scottish Gaelic: Cola) is a small island, west of Mull in the Inner Hebrides of Scotland. Coll is known for its sandy beaches, which rise to form large sand dunes, for its corncrakes, and for Breachacha Castle. In April 2012, in a bid to boost tourism, residents on the Isle of Coll applied for it to be granted the status of Scotland's first Dark Skies Island. They were sated confidence that the designation would be granted by Summer 2012. Read more
