Ecuador tries to fix satellite after space debris crash
The Ecuadorean Space Agency (EXA) says it will announce later on Monday if it can re-establish contact with its first and only satellite, Pegasus. Pegasus, a nano-satellite, collided with a cloud of particles from an old Soviet rocket on Thursday. EXA chief Ronnie Nader said it was still in orbit but was spinning wildly over its two axes. Launch of Gaofen-1 & Other Secondary Payloads on Chinese Long March 2D
The first Chinese launch of 2013 occurred today, April 26th 2013 at 04:13 UTC. A Long March 2D rocket successfully launched from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center with the high resolution remote sensing satellite Gaofen-1 onboard. The vehicle also carried three cubesats - NEE-01 Pegaso, Turksat-3USAT and CubeBug-1.
NEE-01 Pegasus Is the first Ecuadorian satellite, built by the Ecuadorian Space Agency and presented officially in April 4, 2011. The NEE-01 PEGASUS is a nano satellite, of the cubesat 1U class, it has a cubic shape and two solar panel wings with 3 panels on each side for a total of 6 panels per wing, its dimensions are 10 by 10 by 75 centimetres with its solar wings completely deployed and weights 1.2 kilos, it has an on-board dual visible and infrared camera which will allow the spacecraft to take pictures and transmit live video from space, the launch into orbit is planned for the 3rd quarter of year 2012 on board a Russian rocket. First Ecuadorian satellite will help monitoring dangerous near-earth objects from orbit
EXA announced that it will be adding a mission to the first Ecuadorian satellite, the NEE-01 PEGASUS: It will help monitoring near-earth objects from orbit using its onboard video camera and will also help in the catalogue and control of orbital debris (space junk), this new mission will turn the NEE-01 in to the first online, real time orbital video sentry for the planet, as the satellite has the capability to stream its video signal directly to the Internet.
