Comet C/2012 K5 (LINEAR) at magnitude 8.2 will pass 0.48° from the magnitude 11.6 galaxy NGC 2880 in the constellation Ursa Major at 00:30 UT, 26th December, 2012.
Comet C/2012 K5 (LINEAR) at magnitude 8.4 will pass 0.98° from the magnitude 10.5 galaxy NGC 3359 in the constellation Ursa Major at 18:30 UT, 23rd December, 2012.
Comet C/2012 K5 (LINEAR) was discovered on the 25th May, 2012, by the LINEAR survey telescope. The preliminary orbital elements of the comet indicate a perihelion passage was on the 29th November, 2012, at a distance of 1.15 AU from the Sun.
