A large violent earthquake occurred on the early hours (6 h 22 m or so) of 14 July 1885 damaging many areas of Bengal (presently within Bangladesh) with epicenter somewhere close to 24.0 N (Lat) 90.1 E (Long). The earthquake was sensibly felt througout an area of about 230,400 sq miles covering Chotonagpur, Bihar, Sikkim, Bhutan, Assam, Manipur and Burma.
