Virtual rocket launches will probe atmospheric effects

A rocket launch is the only human activity that immediately affects all layers of the atmosphere, discharging hundreds of tonnes of fuel. As part of ESA's new Clean Space initiative, advanced computer modelling will quantify the environmental effect of a launcher's rise to orbit.
