Strong tremors were felt in Jammu and Kashmir and other parts of north India on Tuesday morning at 09:05 am after a strong earthquake measuring 6.2 on the Richter scale rocked Pakistan.

A strong magnitude 6.7 earthquake occurred at 21:47:46 (UTC) on Monday, December 12, 2005, in the Hindu Kush Region, Afghanistan, 95-km NW of Chitral, Pakistan, at a depth of 228.2 km

Location 36.339°N, 71.105°E

"The deeper an earthquake is the less likely it is to cause damage. This quake... is not likely to cause too much damage although it is possible" - Don Blakeman, USGS.

The tremor was felt as far away as the Indian capital, Delhi. There were no immediate reports of casualties.
The quake was centred about 105km southeast of Faizabad in Afghanistan's Badakhshan province.
