The first fragments of a meteorite that hit Alabama last week have been found in or near Addison, Alabama, in Winston County. The two fragments, found Saturday, are from what is now provisionally called the Addison meteorite. Meteorites are named after the closest city to where they were found. Read more
NASA team searching for meteorites that fell in North Alabama Oct. 30
A six-person NASA search team is combing fields and forests northwest of Cullman today for what could be the first meteorites recovered on the ground in Alabama since 1954. Dr. Bill Cooke, Marshall Space Flight Centre's meteor expert, said today the shower of meteorites came from a daylight meteor that streaked across the sky at 5:30 p.m. CDT on Oct. 30. Multiple meteor sightings provide October surprise
A fireball was spotted across the sky in Jackson, Tennessee, Tuesday morning; it could be seen from Kentucky, Alabama and even Louisiana, according to Bill Cooke with NASA's Meteoroid Environments Office.
